Benton County highway work, closings set

BENTONVILLE -- Crews removing a temporary barrier along Interstate 49 will require overnight lane closings in Benton County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Crews will remove the barrier along the north and south outside lanes in Springdale and Lowell this week.

The outside lanes will be closed between Wagon Wheel Road, exit 76, and East Monroe Avenue, exit 78. The overnight lane closings began Monday and will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Aug. 3, weather permitting.

The project is part of the Connecting Arkansas Program and constructs about four miles of the four-lane U.S. 412 Northern Bypass, which extends from I-49 to Arkansas 112. The bypass project will provide a principal east-west route north of Springdale. More information on the $100.6 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Also, maintenance to Arkansas 279 and Arkansas 94 will require a series of alternating lane closings in Benton County this week.

Weather permitting, Arkansas 279 will have an alternating lane closing from Centerton to Hiwasse between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. today and Wednesday.

Arkansas 94 will have an alternating lane closing from Beaver Lake to Blue Hill Road between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily from Thursday through Monday.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane within the work zones. Crews will seal the highways with liquid asphalt and pea gravel.
