The Little Rock Fire Department said an investigation is ongoing after a fire damaged playground equipment at a city elementary school Friday.

Department spokesman Capt. Edwin Woolf said Saturday that investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire at Gibbs Elementary School. He said he did not immediately have further information.

Authorities were called about 5:45 p.m. Friday to the school at 1115 W. 16th St., where they found playground equipment burning on the south side of the campus.

The fire is the latest in a series of blazes that have damaged playgrounds at Little Rock schools the past three summers.

Last year, fires damaged playgrounds at Chicot Primary School and Carver Elementary School.

In 2015, fires caused an estimated $225,000 in damage to playground equipment at Geyer Springs and Franklin elementary schools. The Fire Department said both blazes were intentionally set.

Police arrested a Pine Bluff boy, age 15, on a felony arson charge in the fire at Franklin Elementary.

No other arrests were reported.
