Christian voters guided

by values, not parties

Coralie Koonce seems to think that Christians must support only political parties that are obedient to their church, that obey the commandments and who always take the moral high road. If that were the case, Christians would never be able to support any politician.

Wake up, Coralie. From the beginning Christians knew that they must separate Caesar from God. The options are not always great. We have a choice between those who work hard to secure religious freedom, who support life from conception to natural death, who promise to support family values and traditional marriage and those who do not.

Jesus told us that the poor would always be with us but he didn't tell us to ask Caeser to take care of them. Christians, churches and communities have always organized to care for the poor.

Of course there were no guns in the Bible. Many modern tools are not mentioned in the Bible. The scriptures don't condemn the tools we have available; they guide us in our actions with those tools. The available weapon of choice was the sword, and because of the dangers they would face, Jesus told the disciples that if they had no sword to sell their cloak and purchase one. Today's weapon of choice is the gun and even you might agree that it isn't wise to take a sword to a gunfight. Therefore, I am a gun owner.

President Donald Trump is certainly no saint but I do take issue with some of your phony accusations against him. Remember, Coralie, that you should not bear false witness against your neighbor.

As for the climate pact, our country is way ahead of the game as you admit by saying that "solar already employs more people for electricity generation" than other utilities. The climate pact would have little or no impact on the world's biggest polluters and America is already doing the right thing without some onerous regulations from the world court.

The U.S. welcomes millions of legal immigrants every year. Justice for the alien is continuing to welcome the legal ones who enter through the gate and turning away those who climb in by some other way. We have to understand that there are those who want to enter to do us harm or to steal from and oppress neighbors who have worked hard to make a better life in our nation.

President Trump has already taken action to support religious freedom and to limit support for abortion worldwide. Maybe if the Democrats were to truly bring God back into their platform and support evangelical causes they might regain some support from those awful Christians.

The good news, Coralie, is that if this attack on Christians doesn't work for you, you can always go to the Russian thing. You might even team up with Doug Thompson. You'll probably find him in his back yard, wearing a tinfoil hat and frantically digging a bomb shelter.
