Family restaurant delivers amazing dishes in Ozarks

Pineville native, Alan Bone, brings delicious entrees to his hometown at Haven 55

With the combination of terrific food, breath-taking views and a family atmosphere, most customers won’t find a restaurant like Haven 55 anywhere else.

In Pineville, Missouri, near Little Sugar Creek, is where the Bone family grew up, and now work together in one of the best restaurants in the Ozarks area.

“This is home for me,” said Alan Bone, the executive chef and co-owner with his brother, Brian. “I love it out here, kind of off the beaten path — just quiet and serene.”

Located at 408 Havenhurst Drive in Pineville, the Bone brothers and the rest of the family have built a casual dining restaurant where customers can enjoy all the delicious plates and can overlook the fabulous view of Little Sugar Creek flowing over the dam.

Haven 55 takes ‘family atmosphere’ to a whole other level with six members of the Bone family having part in the operation that is open Tuesday-Saturday each week.

“The restaurant is operated by a close family of brothers, mom and dad, fiance’s and a nephew. The other employees are considered part of the family as well,” Pam Bone said.

The two sons, Alan and Brian are the co-owners of Haven 55 and Tavern which is located adjacent to Haven 55. Their parents, Pam and George, Pam is the back office manager as well as both of them help out as much as they can. Alan’s fiance Micah, is the front of house manager, which has her in-charge of all waitresses. While Jordan, Brian’s fiance, helps Brian at the Tavern. And John O’Brien, sous chef, is the cousin of Alan and Brian.

The whole family has been a huge part of why Haven 55 has been so successful since the opening in 2012.

Haven 55 defines prepared in-house when it comes to all of their dishes, whether that is for lunch or diner, when the customer orders, that is when the food begins to be prepared.

“All food is prepared by a Le Cordon Bleu chef, and it prepared to order. Nothing has been sitting there just waiting for someone to order it,” Pam said.

Due to each entree being prepared only when ordered, customers tend to be at the restaurant for over an hour. Pam made it clear that Haven 55 is not a fast food restaurant, they want each entree to be prepared right, not rushed.

After high school, Alan continued his education at Orlando (Fla.) Culinary Academy, where he graduated with a 4.0 GPA and the highest honor of summa cum laude. He then went on to gain experience working in other chef’s kitchens until making his way back home to create his own restaurant in his hometown.

Haven 55 has a lunch menu which is served from 11-2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday which has eight incredible dishes. These include the Club 55, which is a triple-decker with ham and provolone on top of turkey, bacon, mayonnaise and Swiss cheese on wheat-berry toast which comes with their signature side; Pommes Frites.

The Pommes Frites are hand cut russet potatoes fried until ready to be served with your favorite sandwich.

Other sandwiches that are served during lunch are Hamburgers, Croque Monsieur, Salmon BLT, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, BBQ pulled pork as well as a lunch salad and a lunch special that varies each day. All Lunch menu items are $8 or lower, which is a great deal for the quality of food.

At 2 p.m. each day, Haven 55 closes for three hours until the dinner time customers begin to come in at 5 p.m. where they are open until 9 p.m.

At 5, customers can taste delicious entrees such as the Pork Chops, Haven 55 Chicken, Fruiti Di Mar, Pork Tenderloin and the Cedar Wrapped Salmon.

“We have our incredible New York Strip that isn’t ‘a la carte’, it comes with two sides (a starch and a vegetable), for $25. Which also has our bleu cheese sauce, it is a great deal,” Pam said.

At dinner time the Hamburger, Croque Monsieur, Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Lunch salad are also available for the same price as at lunch.

Haven 55 also serves beer in bottles for $3, which include domestic beers as well as a Seasonal Craft beer. Wine is served for $5 a glass during lunch and dinner.

The Tavern, is located next to Haven 55 has been open since 2013, a year after Haven 55 first opened its doors and is more of the casual setting with a bar, pool table and stage for live music.

“The Tavern is only open on Friday and Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. We have live music on Fridays and karaoke on Saturdays. We do serve our house-made pizza and other bar type fare in the Tavern. You can check out our web page at www.haven55.com to see who the entertainment is for each week.
