PINE BLUFF -- The treachery of Frank Hall, a trusty guard at the state farm at Tucker, enabled Hall and four other convicts to escape this afternoon. A posse with bloodhounds that had been in pursuit of the fugitives returned to the farm empty-handed tonight. It was learned that the men had separated and gone in different directions. Twenty convicts escaped, but 15 of them returned voluntarily to the farm.

• Three persons were wounded Wednesday in separate shooting incidents at Little Rock, the police said. Jackson Cohes of 712 Foster Street was shot in the left foot about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday as he was mowing grass at an East Ninth Street address. Guy Dyer of 2409 Harrison Street was shot in the left shoulder about 6 p.m. after he argued with his wife at their home, the police said. David Smith, 15, of 907 West Short Thirty-second Street was shot in the right leg at 7:15 p.m. as he was walking with some friends along West Thirtieth Street between Pulaski and Cross Streets.

• A Benton County juvenile court judge wrongly prevented a 16-year-old in the state's custody from seeking an abortion last month, the state Supreme Court decided Monday. In a case rushed through the system before the girl's pregnancy could reach it's second trimester, the justices unanimously found that Juvenile Court Judge Terry Crabtree's decision June 10 was erroneous and exceeded his court's jurisdiction. "We find no legal authority, and none has been cited to support that part of the juvenile judge's order enjoining from terminating her pregnancy," the justices wrote in reversing the ruling.

• As of this week, G4S Youth Services has a year-long contract with a $10.7 million price tag to run the Alexander Juvenile Correctional Facility for Arkansas. The Virginia-based firm, which has been running the state's largest youth lockup since January, did not have to go through the formal bidding process. The state considered finding a new management company for the facility an emergency after firing the previous one, Cornell Cos. Inc., in November and suspended all rules calling for a formal bidding process.
