I-49 lanes closing for overnight work

Work on Interstate 49 in Rogers, Lowell and Springdale will require overnight lane closings over the next two weeks, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Crews paving the main lanes of I-49 between Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale and New Hope Road in Rogers will require the inside and outside lanes to be alternately closed daily starting today through Saturday, weather permitting. The work will continue Sunday and last through July 15, also weather permitting.

The northbound lane closings will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The southbound lane closings begin an our later and last until 6 a.m. Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels, the department said.

The work is part of a $38.7 million project to widen a 5-mile section of I-49 to six lanes from four between Arkansas 264 in Lowell and New Hope Road. It is expected to be completed late this year.
