CHILDEN ARE OUR FUTURE

Beebe, others honorees help power Youth Services event

Former Arkansas first lady Ginger Beebe has had a lifelong dedication to volunteering, especially on behalf of young Arkansans.

"We all need to work together so our children will reach their full potential," she told attendees of the 2017 Women's Power Breakfast, held June 24 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Little Rock. Beebe's statement was part of her acceptance of a Lifetime Achievement Award at the benefit for Pulaski County Youth Services.

John Willis provided music as attendees helped themselves to a breakfast buffet. Price McKeon of KARK-TV and Susanne Brunner of KLRT-TV steered the program, which was kicked off with remarks by Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde and a showing of the agency's #BetterThings public service announcement video about alcohol and drug prevention.

Other award recipients were Judy Tenenbaum, who received the Philanthropy Award; North Little Rock District Judge Paula Juels Jones, the Visionary Award; Tamika Edwards, the Advocate for Youth Award; and former Youth Services staff member Susej Thompson, the Directors Award. State Sen. Linda Chesterfield presented the award to Beebe. Other presenters were Christen Burke Pitts, Judge Cathi Compton, Kerri Sernel and Youth Services director Jamie Scott.

According to chairman HL Moody, the event brought in close to $15,000 for the agency, which works to better the lives of young people through after-school and summer school programs.
