Sherwood to break ground for library

Groundbreaking for the new Amy Sanders Library in Sherwood will be at 11:30 a.m. today at 10200 Johnson Drive, hosted by the Central Arkansas Library System and the city.

A reception at the current Amy Sanders Library, 31 Shelby Drive, will follow the groundbreaking ceremony.

The 14,244 square-foot library will be built on 14 acres with amenities including three study rooms, a teen area, gallery space and a 985-square-foot public meeting room. Completion is set for early 2018.

Sherwood voters approved a 1.3-mill tax on Nov. 4, 2014, to issue bonds to pay for the library.

CALS Executive Director Nate Coulter, Sherwood Mayor Virginia Young and Amy Sanders, for whom the library is named, will take part in the groundbreaking event.

The building is designed by Taggart Architects Inc. of North Little Rock. Construction is by Flynco Inc. of Little Rock. The Sanders branch is one of 14 CALS libraries. The others are in Little Rock, Jacksonville, Wrightsville, Maumelle and Perryville.
