NWA Fishing Report

BEAVER LAKE

Crappie and striped bass are biting on the south end of the lake.

Mike Whitehouse at Hickory Creek Marina said fishing is good for crappie with some 15-fish limits being caught. Use jigs or minnows 5 to 10 feet deep around brush piles and tree tops. Pine Creek and Big Hickory cove are good places to try.

Striped bass are biting well on brood minnows one to eight feet deep in the Point 12 area.

Black bass are biting crank baits, jerk baits and Alabama rigs. An angler caught an 8.25-pound largemouth bass last week.

James Whittle at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said black bass fishing is good with Alabama rigs, crank baits, jerk baits and jig and pigs. Bass are shallow.

Crappie fishing is good from Monte Ne south into the river arms. Use minnows or jigs four to 10 feet deep around any wood cover.

BEAVER TAILWATER

Lisa Mullins at the Beaver Dam Store trout are biting a variety of flies including midges, scuds, San Juan worms and egg patterns. There has been lots of low water for good wade fishing.

The top bait is Power Bait in bright colors. Good lures include gold and silver Colorado spoons, red and gold Buoyant Spoons or Flicker Shad crank baits in size 4 or 5.

LAKE FAYETTEVILLE

Angela Perea at the lake office said fishing is fair for black bass, crappie and bluegill. Use soft plastics or jig and pigs for bass. Go with small jigs for crappie and bluegill. Worms or rickets are also good for bluegill.

LAKE SEQUOYAH

Mike McBride at Lake Sequoyah boat dock reports little fishing activity. He recommends using jigs or minnows eight feet deep for crappie. Try jig and pigs for black bass.

SWEPCO LAKE

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said black bass are biting plastic worms rigged any style. Try top-water lures at sunrise or on cloudy days.

LAKE ATALANTA

James Whittle at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said trout are biting Power Bait, Super Dupers or small spoons.

ILLINOIS RIVER

Stroud recommends using tube baits or jerk baits for black bass.

BELLA VISTA

Harvey Horne at Hook, Line and Sinker in Bella Vista said black bass are biting jerk baits and crank baits at all Bella Vista lakes. Bluegill are biting crickets or worms at Loch Lomond 15 to 20 feet deep.

Trout fishing is good at Lake Brittany on sunrise Power Bait or small spoons.

EASTERN OKLAHOMA

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports good fishing for crappie at Grand Lake with jigs around brush and docks 20 to 30 feet deep. Catfish are biting well on shad in coves and on the main lake 35 to 60 feet deep.

TABLE ROCK LAKE

Pete Wenners at Pete’s Professional Guide Service said black bass are biting well on jerk baits, fair on crank baits. Fish areas with ledge rock and gravel. A good jerk bait color is shad with a purple or green back.

Bass can also be caught 35 to 60 feet deep in the center of creek arms with ice fishing jigs or grubs.
