Oklahoma man's shooting under investigation

WATTS, Okla. -- An Oklahoma man was shot and killed after he threatened officers with a metal pipe Wednesday night, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

An Adair County Sheriff's Office deputy and a Watts Police officer were sent to domestic abuse call on East 610 Road about 7:30 p.m., according to a bureau news release. Stoney McJunkin, 40, came out of the home with a metal pipe in his hands when officers arrived, according to the release .

"He reportedly raised the pipe in an aggressive manner and refused officers' commands to put down the pipe," according to the release. "The Adair County deputy fired his handgun at McJunkin."

McJunkin was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. His body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Tulsa, Okla., for an autopsy.

The Sheriff's Office referred all questions to Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Jessica Brown, a bureau spokeswoman, said the Sheriff's Office requested help with the investigation. Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation special agents collected evidence from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

The names of the officers involved weren't released.

Watts Police Chief Matt Stilwell confirmed Adair County requested a Watts officer help arrest a person in connection with domestic violence.

McJunkin was on parole for charges of distribution of a controlled substance and possession with the intent to deliver, according to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Once the investigation is complete, a full report will be delivered to the district attorney's office, according to the release.
