FAYETTEVILLE -- A $50,000 gift from a Springdale couple will support mechanical engineering students who play in the Razorback Band.

The gift from Chris and Debby Weiser creates the Weiser Family Engineering Scholarship. Chris Weiser owns JV Manufacturing in Springdale, which makes recycling and solid waste disposal equipment.

The Razorback Marching Band has more than 350 members, according to UA. The university's Hogwild Band also performs at UA athletic events and has about 105 members, according to the university.

If a mechanical engineering student isn't participating in band, the award will go to a band student in another engineering discipline, UA spokesman Camilla Shumaker said.

Chris Weiser earned a mechanical engineering degree from UA. Debby Weiser also earned a UA bachelor's degree.

The couple's daughter, Heather, attended UA and participated on the flag line of the Hogwild Band, while the couple's son-in-law, Jason, played trombone in the band.

"We learned about the band and what they do and the dedication and how hard they work," Chris Weiser said in a statement released by UA.
