Seeking man who shot at officer, Fayetteville police say

UPDATE 12:30 P.M.

Police are searching for Leroy Detetrice James, 36, who they say shot at a police car multiple times early this morning.

Police went to 1655 N. Saddlehorn Ave. to check out a 911 call from the house, Sgt. Craig Stout said. The caller hung up without speaking about 4:42 a.m., but a dispatcher could hear what sounded like an argument, he said.

As an officer drove up to the house, a man came out and shot at the police car multiple times, Stout said. The officer reversed the vehicle and got away, Stout said. The man fled.

James is considered dangerous, Stout said. He is described as a black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 160 pounds wearing a black, zip-up coat and black pants.

No one was hurt in the shooting. A police dispatch report shows James shot about four times at the officer. Stout said he missed the vehicle.

The house is east of Interstate 49 near North Porter Road.

Police secured the house, and then started looking for James, according to a news release.

Police had a warrant out for James in connection with a parole violation, according to the news release.
