WASHINGTON COUNTY

The Katog Rit'hrod Buddhist Retreat Center in Parthenon presents Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche, a Tibetan monk, speaking from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, 4703 N. Crossover Road in Fayetteville. The monk will speak on "finding joy in troubled times."

The Rev. Andrew Thompson leads a "Next Steps" class for those considering membership and want to learn more about the Methodist faith and the church. The class meets at 5:30 p.m. each Sunday, Jan. 15 to Feb. 12.

Mount Sequoyah Conference and Retreat Center in Fayetteville, 150 N. Skyline Drive, offers two technology training courses, focusing on Wordpress, on Jan. 26. A basic class runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and an advanced class from noon to 5 p.m. Mark Epperson and Butch Renfroe, who oversee technology for the Arkansas conference of the United Methodist Church, lead the classes. Cost is $20 per person for one class, or $30 for both, and includes lunch. Participants should bring their own laptops.

Mount Sequoyah offers the "Beyond Conference," a networking opportunity for those working in children's ministry, on Jan. 27-28. The Rev. Melissa Cooper of the Life Enrichment Center in Fruitland Park, Fla., leads the class. She is considered an expert in intergenerational ministry with the Florida conference of the United Methodist Church.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rogers, 1101 W. Hudson Road, sponsors a cookie walk Sunday morning. The free-will offering will benefit the congrgations' food pantry.

Unitarian Universalists of Benton County, 1110 S.E. Evergreen St., Bentonville, hold a "Burning Bowl Ritual" at 11 a.m. Sunday. Congregants will set their intentions for the new year and "release what no longer serves them."

Sunday school for children is based on a Unitarian Universalist, Montessori adaptation of Jerome Berryman's book, Spirit Play.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, offers a servie to find comfort, hope and healing from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Members of the church meet for prayer at 4:45 p.m. every Wednesday in the chapel.

Men's Emmaus is forming a new group. An informational meeting is planned for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

United Methodist Men meet for their monthly dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Becker Hall, with Jerry Malot speaking. Malot has served as a mayor and currently is an active volunteer with hospice and CASA. Rhythm & Q caters barbecue. Reservations requested by Sunday.

Pak-A-Sak collects food Jan. 15 for the Habitat for Humanity food pantry. The Care & Share trailer will be in the church's upper parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 16 for donations of items to be sold in the organization's thrift store in Gravette. The church hosts a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 30.

The church also hosts weekly meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous on Monday and Saturday.

The Neighborhood Church in Bentonville, 2003 S.W. Regional Airport Road, offers a five-week book study on The Shack by William Paul Young. The study meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. starting Jan. 25.

Northwest Arkansas Gurdwara Sahib in Rogers, a Sikh temple, 1223 S. Eighth St., celebrates Agman Purab Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Sehaj Path Bhog on Sunday. The church worships at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday, with adult Bible study beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday. Children's worship is available for children ages 4-12, and nursery care is available.

Youth meet for pizza at 6 p.m. and Bible study at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday. The Prayer Fellowship meets at 9:15 a.m. each Wednesday.

Blood pressure checks are available to the community from 9 a.m. to noon each Wednesday in the nurse's office.

The Growing Through Grief support group meets at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the parlor, and a caregivers support group meets at 1 p.m. Jan. 11.

Village Bible Church in Bella Vista, 1591 Forest Hills Blvd., The church hosts an Evangelism Explosion workshop on sharing faith from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Jan. 21. Cost is $15, and includes lunch. Registration requested by Monday.

A women's Bible study, "Prayer: Essential to a Fruitful Christian Life," written and led by Joanne Morris, begins at 9 a.m. every Tuesday. A women's knitting ministry and a White Cross Mission ministry meet at 7 p.m. each Tuesday working on projects for local children and adults, as well as some in a hospital in Congo.

Unity Church of the Ozarks, 902 S.W. Second St., Suite E, Bentonville, worships at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with new pastor, the Rev. Elise Cowan leading the service.

The church presents a premeire screening of The Twelve Powers, a documentary by James Twyman, at noon Jan. 22. The film features wisdom from more than 40 ministers and follows James to the Middle East for a synchronized meditation.

A Women's Gathering is planned for 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the home of Bex Tracy.

The Masonic Philosophical Society meets the last Saturday of every month at the Unity Center to discuss individual and universal mysteries. A Wednesday evening group discussion centers around a spiritually focused passage at 7 p.m. each week. The prayer team meets at 12:15 p.m. Sunday and the first Sunday of every month.

The congregation continues collecting "Change for Change" to donate to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.

The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., installs new deacons and elders during the worship service Sunday. An all-church Shepherd group meeting will be held after worship in the fellowship hall.
