— Ten employees were fired during a special meeting Wednesday night in what one City Council member said was a necessary measure to bring money back into the city.

The council fired City Manager Charlie Holyfield, Nicole Ferguson, who worked as Mayor Travis Lee's personal assistant, Stephanie Woods, Jacki Hawkins, Chris Burgess, Stephen Spann, Gary Crews, Nathan Coy, who worked as an officer for the Cave Springs Police Department, B.J. Burney and Craig Southern, a Planning Department employee.

"We decided to go back to the number of employees we had in 2014," Alderman Mary Ann Winters said on Thursday.

The firings were part of the 2017 budget that was approved at the meeting.
