Milligan hires NLR woman as spokesman

State Treasurer Dennis Milligan has hired public relations consultant Stacy Peterson of North Little Rock as his communications director.

Peterson has been an independent public relations consultant since May 2011, campaign consultant for now-state Rep. James Sturch, R-Batesville, from March-November 2014, and public relations director for the Impact Management Group of Little Rock from March 2008-May 2011, according to her resume. She previously worked stints as a reporter for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Paragould Daily Press and The Daily Citizen in Searcy.

Chief Deputy Treasurer Grant Wallace had previously served as Milligan's spokesman. But Chief Deputy Treasurer Jason Brady and Wallace have added the duties of former Chief of Staff Jim Harris, whose retirement becomes effective Jan. 13.

Peterson said she will be paid $48,000 a year as the communications director. She said she was one of two applicants for the job after the position was posted on the state treasurer's website and in the Public Relations Society of America job listings.

Milligan, a Republican from Benton, said that "we are excited to have Stacy and someone of her experience join our staff."

"She is going to help us continue to inform Arkansans about the work of their Treasurer's office, and educate them on all we do day in and day out increasing the returns on the State's investments and growing the Arkansas 529 GIFT program," Milligan said in a written statement.
