Bones discovered in undeveloped part of city, sent to Arkansas state Crime Laboratory

Hunters in an undeveloped part of Barling found human remains that are being sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock in hopes of identifying them.

Barling police investigator Ray Moore said two people were in the North Boundary Road area of what was once part of Fort Chaffee about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when they came across human remains about 850 to 1,000 yards from the Arkansas River.

One piece of clothing was found in the area where the remains were found, Moore said. He would not identify the clothing article or say whether it gave a clue to the person's identity.

He said he could not estimate how long the remains had been there, only that there was no flesh left on them.

Once the remains are examined, missing persons reports will be checked to help identify them, he said.
