Concerto premiere

Saxophonist Andy Wen, the Little Rock Wind Symphony and conductor Israel Getzov will premiere the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Band by Neil Flory, which the group commissioned, 7:30 p.m. today at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock. The program, titled "Reminisce," also includes Ron Nelson's Rocky Point Holiday, The Colonel Bogey March by Kenneth Alford, English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Easter Monday on the White House Lawn by John Philip Sousa. Gallery talk, tour

Boston-based vocal quartet Women of the World -- Ayumi Ueda, Annette Philip, Giorgia Renosto and Deborah Pierre, from, respectively, Japan, India, Italy and Haiti, plus percussionist Patrick Simard -- will perform at 7 p.m. today in the Administration Auditorium, Harding University, 915 E. Songwriters' showcase

New music by students and community songwriters will be the focus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's 31st Songwriters Showcase, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the UALR Fine Arts Building. Vibraphonist Charles Law will play showcase organizer Robert Boury's Golden Apples of the Sun, marking Boury's 35th year at the university. The program will also feature songs written and performed by Sarah Hastings, Ella Schee, Michael Heavner, John Lee Roberts and Christopher Loper, with guest singers Darci Carlson and Bonnie Montgomery.
