Interstate 49 work planned this week

ROGERS -- Construction work on Interstate 49 in Rogers and Lowell will require overnight lane closings starting tonight, and construction later in the week will require closing the interstate entirely for short periods in Bentonville, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Crews will move concrete barrier walls on north and south I-49. The inside lanes will be closed from West Monroe Avenue, Exit 78, to New Hope Road, Exit 83, to allow for construction.

The lane closings will occur nightly, ending Wednesday morning, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels.

• North I-49 lane closings will be between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

• South I-49 lane closings will be between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Beginning early Monday morning, crews will begin to hang bridge beams across the interstate in Bentonville and require closing all lanes in both directions for 15-minute periods, according to highway officials.

The work is expected to continue through Saturday morning. North and south lanes will be closed at various times overnight for 15-minute periods while crews work. All lanes will be closed between mile markers 87 and 89, which is south and north of Central Avenue, Exit 88.

The periodic, 15-minute lane closings will be between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting. The closings will be during the following dates and times:

• Monday morning between midnight and 6 a.m.

• Monday night through Saturday morning between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Traffic will be handled by the Arkansas State Police, and advance warning signs will be placed to notify traffic approaching the closing.
