BENTON COUNTY

The United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, 100 Cooper Road, plans a Mardi Gras party at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 26.

The church hosts a "Lunch and Learn" program on heart-healthy foods at noon Feb. 28. The program is led by the Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education.

The church plans Ash Wednesday services at 12:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. March 1. Both will include communion and imposition of ashes.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., offers an Ash Wednesday service at 6 p.m. March 1.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday. The pantry needs donations of peanut butter, and any $5 coupon from Dollar General will be used to buy hygiene products.

Unitarian Universalists of Benton County, 1110 S.E. Evergreen St., Bentonville, presents Teresa Honey Youngblood speaking at 11 a.m. Sunday. Her talk is titled, "Mentors in Headscarves: Women, Our Third and Fourth Sources, and the Lessons of Lives of Orthodoxy."

First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville, 901 N.E. J St., present the youth of the church leading the service at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 26, followed by a pancake brunch.

The church offers an Ash Wednesday service with imposition of ashes at 7 p.m. March 1. The church plans a community prayer service for the World Day of Prayer from 6:30 to 7 pm. March 3.

The church offers "Reflections on the Journey: Aging, Death and Final Preparations," starting March 5. The five-session class includes discussion, guest speakers and resources. Registration is $10 and requested by Feb. 27. The classes will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday afternoons.

The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., gathers for "Dinner Church" at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, with an informal time of worship opening the evening. An offering will be received to pay for the cost of the meal.

Ladies of the church celebrate those having birthdays during this month with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

A Lenten study begins at 2 p.m. March 2 and continues for six weeks. The Rev. Dennis Ritchie and the Rev. Liz Wagner, church pastors, will lead the study, "Aging Matters: Find Your Calling for the Rest of Your Life," by R. Paul Stevens. Study books are $12.

New Life Christian Church in Bella Vista, 103 Riordan Road, sponsors the outreach ministry in hosting an appreciation luncheon for teachers and staff Tuesday at Cooper Elementary School in Bella Vista.

Side by Side Ministry for single senior women will tour Feb. 25 the new exhibit at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. Prior to the tour, they will eat lunch in Springdale. A carpool from the church leaves at 11 a.m.

Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., sponsors the Men's Disciple group at 8:30 a.m. today, with Bill Keller as the speaker.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, offers Midweek Manna each Wednesday. A fellowship meal is served from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. for a donation of $5 for adults, $3 for children younger than 10, with a family maximum of $15. Small group study, craft and activity groups and programs for children run from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

Classes include "Our United Methodist Footsteps," "Knitting for the Soul," a women's Bible study, "The Bible -- the Mini Series Encore," "Living Single With Confidence," "Bella Vista -- My Hometown," "Coloring Your Way to Calm" and UMW crafts. Childcare is available. Elementary children will learn Bible basics. If needed, time for homework is provided.

The church has printed a cookbook, 40 Years of Potluck, with about 400 recipes from 104 contributors. The book is $20 and available in the church office.

The Neighborhood Church in Bentonville, 2003 S.W. Regional Airport Road, presents "Popcorn Theology" with the movie Turbo from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25. A snail-shell boxcar derby is planned.

The church holds an Ash Wednesday soup supper and service March 1. The supper is served at 6 p.m., and the service begins at 7 p.m.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, 2925 N. Old Missouri Road, presents the Rev. Liz Edman in a presentation titled "Queer Virtue" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. The lecture focuses on what LGBTQ+ people know about life and love and how it can revitalize Christianity. She will spend time with community leaders Thursday.

Edman, a native of Fayetteville, is an Episcopal priest and political activist. She is a member of St. Lydia's Dinner Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., and preaches often at St. Andrew and Holy Communion Episcopal Church in South Orange, N.J.

The Tibetan Cultural Institute of Arkansas presents a mental health seminar on death and dying from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Arkansas Union theater on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Seminar leaders include Sidney Burris, director of the honors study program; Dent Gitchel, assistant professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock; Geshe Dakpa Topgyal, who holds a doctorate in Buddhist philosophy and religion; and Geshe Thupten Dorjee, an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas.

Registration is $25 for UA students and $50 for others.

Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale, 1506 W. Robinson Ave., offers several helping ministries, beginning this month.

GriefShare meets from 6 to 7:45 p.m. each Wednesday for 13 sessions, starting this week. The class is designed to help survivors learn to cope after the death of a loved one.

DivorceCare for Kids meets from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. each Wednesday for 13 sessions, also starting this week. The ministry is designed to help first- to sixth-graders completely heal from the pain of divorce through a Bible-based lesson and stories.

All sessions feature a video seminar. Childcare is provided. A small donation is requested for the workbook.

REGION

St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith, 1301 S. Albert Pike Ave., presents "A Taste of Solidarity II," a dinner and entertainment, from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Christ the King Catholic Church in Fort Smith, 2112 S. Greenwood Ave. The event is a fundraiser for the monastery's scholarship program for girls in Guatemala. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. In addition to Latino food, the Ballet Folklorico Salvadorena and groups from four different Catholics schools will perform.

The monastery sponsors a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 25 at the monastery. Items include bedding, jewelry, decorations, trinkets and treasures, as the sisters prepare for their move into a smaller monastery.
