Must take high road

Democrats need to stop blocking President Trump's Supreme Court nominee. This is wrong. Their justification is that this should have been President Obama's nominee, and, therefore, this is not a legitimate nominee.

They are right. This should have been President Obama's nominee. Republicans were wrong. I believe what they did was unconstitutional.

However, there is nothing to be gained from doing something else that is wrong. This is childish behavior to say that they acted badly so we are justified in acting badly. This will only harm the American people.

This is comparable to Trump's wanting to torture our enemies and discriminate against a religion because this is what our enemies are doing. Wrong behavior is wrong behavior, period.

Something I found to be really hypocritical was Republicans saying Justice Scalia would have agreed with them in denying a hearing for President Obama's nominee. If Justice Scalia believed in interpreting the Constitution literally, I believe he would have sided with the Democrats, because the Constitution supports that this was President Obama's nominee.

I think Democrats should take the high road and move on. I know they don't want to turn into Republicans, and that they want to be reasonable people.

Needs more education

Mr. Jason Rapert seems totally uninformed about medical marijuana, in my opinion.

It is the only substance that has prevented my migraine headaches, with every prescription given to me by doctors, since I was 14 years old. I am in my mid-60s now.

Please become more educated about something that helps alleviate pain for literally millions of people. Thank you.

Call it a public service

On the days that John Brummett's column is published, I wish you would print the Voices page on a plastic bag so that when I throw up it won't ruin the rest of the paper. Thank you.

Strongly support him

When will the American people learn? First, we had a president that could virtually do as he pleased and nothing was done, but with a new president, everything he does, regardless of how good it is, is attacked by the press and others who are acting like children. If my children had behaved in such a manner they would have been spanked, which is biblical.

Just because some did not get the president they wanted, they "think" they have the right to protest, which is childish in its highest form. Do I love America? Yes. Therefore I am willing to accept whoever is president, even if I do not always agree with him. But to set the record straight, I strongly support President Trump and am willing to give him the opportunity to help this country, which I believe has been systemically dismantled.

What sense does it make to fine someone because they cannot afford high insurance? That doesn't make good non-sense. People have to pay for their medical cost out of their own pocket, so our government takes money away from them by penalizing them and it just puts more of a burden on them.

Am I on my soapbox? Yes, I am, and it is time for the patriot Americans to do the same. Let us stand with our president and be firm, and by God's grace this country can be great again. Amen!

Match made in ... uhh

It seems the United States of America has its first Fox "News" president, a president who knows nothing about running a country, elected by people who have been fed "alternative" facts for years. He admits that he gets his information from many sources including Fox News, the Internet and the National Enquirer. His supporters don't trust the "liberal media" like CNN, PBS, NPR or the New York Times and are largely watchers of Fox News as their primary news source.

Surveys show that Fox News viewers know less than people who watch no news at all. They are not just uninformed but misinformed. Fox was created to promote a right-wing, conservative point of view. It is basically a propaganda arm of the Republican Party.

I believe Donald Trump is making a mockery of the office of the presidency like Fox makes a mockery of the news.

Why so many protest

Yes, thank God the election is over, though it is hard to tell by the winners' reaction. I've never heard so many sore winners.

No. 45 is saying there is voter fraud, sources say there is foreign interference. I guess the right thing to do would be to hold another election after getting rid of electronic voting machines and creating a federal voting rule for the country. Meaning same rules for every voter in every state. Make that an executive order.

Many were upset over the election results. I believe not so much because the Republicans won, but because our country lost. It lost dignity and respect for all people and is dividing our country with hate. It is sad to see the Republican Congress standing up for this new agenda of hate. Apparently racism is OK now, xenophobia is OK now, misogyny is OK now, conflict of interest is OK now, crony capitalism is OK now. That is why we saw what reportedly was the largest political protest in U.S. history.

Regarding balance in the opinions, maybe it's because they reflect the balance of actual letters. Remember, 45 lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million. Lies are lies, period, and opinions are opinions, and everyone has a different one.

It's not Burger King

Amen to Brother Kevin Duke's explanation of Jason Rapert's "willful ignorance."

Someone needs to explain to Mr. Rapert that our state government is not Burger King. Our laws do not allow our government to serve it your way anytime it suits your agenda. Fence-straddling is deplorable!
