Paint the Town Red on Jan. 21 at the Fayetteville Town Center drew a soldout crowd of more than 1,180 guests who helped the nonprofit American Heart Association net more than $260,000.

Guests had the opportunity to sample tastes from a number of area restaurants that included Crabby’s Seafood Bar and Grill, IDK Cafe, Noodles Italian Kitchen, Wright’s Barbecue and Chuy’s.

The evening included a VIP lounge, mobile silent auction and a special performance by Barrett Baber, who placed third overall on season nine of The Voice.

The event, designed for philanthropic young professionals, kicks off a series of spring fundraisers for the nonprofit organization whose mission is “building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 3 killers in the United States.

Next up for the group are Go Red for Women on Feb. 23, featuring Miss America Savvy Shields, Northwest Arkansas Heart Walk on April 8 and the 2017 Northwest Arkansas Heart Ball on May 13.

Those painting the town red with the Heart Association included Silvia Azrai-Kawas, Kaley Schwab, Andrea and Jim Broadbeck, Diane and Dan Rennell, Ronny and Devon Cerniga and Susanne and Andy Baber.

The Scott Family Amazeum in Bentonville got hot Jan. 27 for On the Rocks: HEAT.

The fire jugglers greeting guests at the museum entrance set the tone for an evening filled with thermal-themed activities throughout the museum.

Those attending had the opportunity to try their hands at molybdomancy, which consists of heating metal until molten, then dropping it in water then seeing what shape it takes — a technique used for divination in earlier times. Guests could also play the keyboard synchronized to a Ruben’s tube — a perforated flame tube, which demonstrates the relationship between sound waves and sound pressure. There were fire bubbles, using soap, water and nitrogen, and Bentonville Iron Works was hand-forging metal.

Hot menu items included a hot chocolate bar replete with schnapps, other liqueurs and various flavoring options, cayenne-glazed pineapple and jalapeno poppers.

Those warming up at the grown-up event at the children’s museum included Meredith Lowry, Paula and Ken Mantel, Karen Minkel, Sunny Lane, Tina Madryga, Janet Bareis, Vickie Vasser-Jenkins, Jon Cadieux, Lisa Margulis and Martin Miller, Tausha Lawrey, Kym Graves, Tesa Patterson, Greg Fogle, and Lee Ann and David Mimbs.
