Lane train didn't stop in blowout

Coach Lane Kiffin led Florida Atlantic to a victory in the Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday night against Akron.

The 2017 college football season was good to Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin completed his first season as head coach at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday night, leading the Owls to a 50-3 rout of Akron in the Boca Raton Bowl.

When Florida Atlantic took a 34-3 lead midway through the third quarter, Kiffin decided to go for two.

Why?

Kiffin said after the game it was because of Akron associate athletic director George Van Horne talking a little trash during a luncheon Monday, the day before the bowl game.

"His bad," Kiffin told reporters.

Said USA Today Sports reporter Steven Ruiz: " 'His bad' is such a Lane Kiffin thing to say. I'm imagining him saying it while putting on a pair of sunglasses and walking away laughing.

"Kiffin tried to do the right thing, but he just wasn't capable. Running up the score wasn't enough. He had to rub it in, too."

What did Akron Coach Terry Bowden think of Kiffin's decision?

"Lane was just playing football," Bowden said. "I have no problem with it."

It was quite the Tuesday for Kiffin, who agreed to a contract extension to stay at FAU through December 2027.

"I won't get fired on any tarmacs," said Kiffin, referring to when he was fired by Southern California in 2013 at Los Angeles International Aiport.

New Ball game?

A new basketball league may be on the horizon, courtesy of LaVar Ball.

Ball, the father of Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Lonzo Ball, told ESPN.com his Junior Basketball Association -- which he said is fully funded by his Big Baller Brand -- plans to pay the lowest-ranked player a salary of $3,000 a month and the best player $10,000 a month. Ball is looking for 80 players to fill 10 teams that will seek to play at NBA arenas in Los Angeles, Dallas, Brooklyn and Atlanta.

Ball said the rules of his league will follow those of the NBA instead of college -- 12-minute quarters and a pro three-point line.

There's plenty of work to be done by Ball.

No venues have been rented and ticket prices haven't been set, he said. There are no players in the league, and LaVar's sons LiAngelo and LaMelo will not play in it. LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball have signed with Prienai Birstonas Vytautas in Lithuania.

Although he's in the NBA, Lonzo's presence will be part of the league. The logo for the Junior Basketball Association will feature a silhouette of Lonzo going to the hoop for a dunk.

Goodbye, toilet

A former NBA player took to Twitter to complain that a toilet was among the items stolen from his Dallas home during a burglary.

Charlie Villanueva, 33, a former first-round pick who most recently played with the Dallas Mavericks, posted a photo of the space in his bathroom where his toilet once stood.

In a series of sometimes potty-mouthed tweets, Villanueva said his home appliances also were taken during the burglary Tuesday.

The former Detroit Piston described the episode as "mind blowing," saying he's "in shock."

Villanueva criticized police for a slow response to his burglary report, saying he called four times about the purloined toilet.

Another Twitter user created the handle "Stolen Toilet" and responded to one of his tweets by asking: "Charlie are u looking for me?"
