Man sentenced for selling meth in Springdale

FAYETTEVILLE -- An Oklahoma man was sentenced to federal prison Tuesday for selling methamphetamine in Springdale.

Jose Luis Vaca, 32, of Claremore, Okla., was sentenced to five years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay a $3,000 fine on one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force received a tip from a confidential informant that a Hispanic male would be traveling from Tulsa, Okla. to a residence in Springdale on Oct. 12, 2016 with about one-half pound of methamphetamine, according to court records The residence was known to detectives as a drug trafficking residence.

A white Infiniti M45 approached the residence, detectives confirmed the license tag and talked with Vaca. Detectives found two packages of meth inside the glove compartment. Vaca admitted it was his meth and said he regularly drove around with meth with his car.

Vaca was indicted by a federal grand jury in March and pleaded guilty in August.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Denis Dean prosecuted the case.
