Waste district, police set up cardboard drop-off sites

Washington County residents can drop off cardboard for recycling at five city halls and police departments beginning Monday, according to a news release.

Boston Mountain Solid Waste District and police departments have set up cage trailers where residents can leave cardboard instead of putting it outside their homes. Labeled boxes left outside could give potential thieves an idea of what gifts a family received, said Robin Reed, director of the district. Those homes could become targets, she said.

More waste is generated during the holiday, too. The program helps residents remove waste from their homes and stay safe, Reed said.

Except for Springdale, the trailers will be available through the first week of January.

The trailers are at: Farmington City Hall, 354 W. Main St.; Lincoln Police Department, 101 E. Bean St.; West Fork City Hall, 262 Main St.; Johnson Police Department, 2904 Main Drive; Springdale Police Station, 201 Spring St., until Dec. 29;
