NWA LETTERS

Second Amendment supporter worries

I’ve retained two letters to the editor regarding the “knee-jerk” reaction to a ban on weapons. They were specifically referencing the Las Vegas shootings. Why does no one recite the statistics of the highest crime rates in St. Louis, Baltimore, Detroit and New Orleans, which are predominantly minority and Democrats?

It’s not the weapons that are causing the problem; it is the people! It’s not the NRA members or law-abiding citizens. Just like using a spoon excessively can make you fat — yes, a weapon of obesity!

I am an NRA member. However, I do not support “bump stocks.” I never heard that term before as most of us have not. I believe in our Second Amendment. Why do you think no country has invaded us since England? Japan did, by air raids. During Hurricane Katrina, government authorities were confiscating peoples weapon’s without reason. Google it! In the age of information, it just a matter of educating ourselves and stopping this knee-jerk reaction to everything that strikes us on the news. Our country is getting more and more divided. Geez, do we need another 9/11 to “bring us together?” I pray to God we do not.

Let’s get along and respect one another’s opinions. Know the facts.

Kudos for carriers, leadership of Democrat-Gazette

I just finished reading a nice note of appreciation [Letters, Dec. 7] directed to [newspaper carrier] Rick English. He is a neighbor of mine and a truly nice guy who has come to my aid several times offering assistance with something I could not handle.

I would like to also mention my appreciation for my carrier, Earl Locklin. For over a year now my paper has never arrived late or been so wet that I had to call the area manager. I understand he and his wife work as a team in the wee hours of every morning, seven days a week.

During this season as we focus on giving, I hope we remember our carriers with a monetary gift for all they do nightly.

While I am at it, I am so proud of the Democrat-Gazette’s leadership for still providing its subscribers with such a fine newspaper during these trying times for the industry. Thanks!
