FARMINGTON -- Farmington probably thought it couldn't get any worse after the Cardinals were held scoreless in the second quarter.

It did.

Springdale (3-2): Scales 21, Fitch 13, Eckwood 12, Donahoo 9, Jibke 5, Johnson 3, Boyd 2, Ratliff 2, Coulter 2.

Farmington (3-3): Montez 10, Maxwell 10, Killion 6, Gray 5, Staten 5, Downs 3.

Springdale High reeled off 18 consecutive points and defeated Farmington 69-39 in a nonconference basketball game in Cardinal Arena. The scoring streak began in the second quarter when the Bulldogs outscored Farmington 10-0 and extended into the third quarter when the Bulldogs outscored the Cardinals 23-9.

Farmington (3-3) finally ended the drought when Payton Maxwell managed an inside basket with 3 minutes, 25 seconds left in the third quarter. The game was tied 15-15 after one quarter.

"Springdale shot the ball well at our place, but you can't go a quarter and a half without scoring and expect to beat anybody," Farmington coach Beau Thompson said. "We're just really struggling offensively right now."

Farmington will need players to pick up the scoring slack following the graduation of Matt Wilson, a freshman at Delta State (Miss.) who averaged 29 points a game last season for the Cardinals. Farmington struggled offensively most of the night after making consecutive 3-pointers to start the game.

Skyler Montez and Maxwell each scored 10 points to lead the Cardinals.

Springdale (3-2) made seven 3-pointers, but the Bulldogs also had good spacing on the floor which allowed for drives to the basket with ball movement. Sophomore Trentez Scales led the way with 21 points, followed by Carl Fitch with 13 and Tavari Eckwood with 12.

Fitch and Scales each made 3-point baskets to increase the Springdale lead to 33-15 early in the third quarter.

"We really work on trying to have good balance," Springdale coach Jeremy Price said. "We want to be able to get the ball in the paint and spread the floor. Our guards did a good job of spreading the ball and getting the ball inside."

Marquis Donahoo started the surge with two steals he turned into a layup and a free throw. Fitch contributed two baskets inside while Joe Jibke added a 3-pointer and Scales a driving layup to give Springdale a 10-point lead at the half.

"Marquis created turnovers at half court and got us some points," Price said. "Anytime you get some easy shots and see them go in, it becomes contagious."
