Paddling trip explores Monte Ne
Arkansas Canoe Club and Pack Rat Outdoor Center will host a group paddling trip at 11 a.m. Saturday at Monte Ne Cove on Beaver Lake. Meet at the Monte Ne launch ramp.
Cold weather paddling apparel and life jackets must be worn. Stand-up paddleboard users must have a leash and belt or Type III life jacket.

Hike visits Ozark trail
The Ozark Highlands Trail Association will host a 5.3-mile group hike Sunday along the Ozark Highlands Trail from Indian Creek trailhead to Lick Branch trailhead. The hike is moderate in difficulty.
All hikers are welcome. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Harps store in Elkins to carpool or go directly to the Indian Creek trailhead.

Beginner backpack trip set
Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will host an overnight backpack trip Saturday and Sunday for beginner backpackers.
The trip starts at 2 p.m. Saturday and ends at noon Sunday. The trip is 8.5 miles total on the Pigeon Roost Trail.
Participants should bring their own food, water and equipment for camping overnight on the trail.
Cost is $10 plus tax. To register, call the park visitor center, 479-789-5000.
Corps seeks park attendants
The Army Corps of Engineers seeks park attendants for the 2018 recreation season at Beaver Lake.
The positions are paid and include fee collectors, cleaning attendants or a combination of both. Park attendants are the point of contact for most day-use visitors and campers at Beaver Lake.

Naturalists offer training
Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists are taking applications for new member training.
Classes start Jan. 20 for Benton County, Jan. 24 for Carroll County and Jan. 27 for Washington and Madison counties. Benton, Washington and Madison county classes are on alternating Saturdays. Carroll County classes meet on Wednesdays with field time to be determined.
Cost is $135 for training and materials, plus $30 annual dues. Cost is $80 for a second household member if materials are shared, plus annual dues.
Over 60 hours of instruction are offered in areas such as wildlife, watersheds, geology, native and invasive species. Most classes combine classroom and field work.
