DAR
The James Bright Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11:30 a.m. today at Fred's Hickory Inn in Bentonville. A community service award will be presented to Dawn Sprague in recognition of her devotion to troubled teens. Gifts for men and women serving in the military will be collected, as well as donations for the veterans in the hospital in Fayetteville.

Orchids
The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. This will be the annual awards presentation, potluck luncheon and "Dirty Santa" orchid-related gift exchange.
Anyone interested in growing orchids is welcome to attend the regular meetings on the third Sunday of most months. The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly plant judging and raffles, the spring sale at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks and annual public auction offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

Trails
The Ozark Highlands Trail Association will lead the following hikes:
•Spy Rock to Redding Campground: This hike will begin on FS Road 1504 for a brief warm-up hike out to Spy Rock to take in views from bluffs and then backtrack across FS Road 1504 to begin the gradual descending hike to the Redding Campground, a total distance of approximately five miles. Bring water and lunch.
Meet up at 9 a.m. today at Harps in Elkins near the gas pumps for carpool to Redding Campground entrance or meet there. All hikers and dogs with leashes are welcome.
•Indian Creek to Lick Branch: OHTA will lead this hike, a total of 5.3 miles. Hike through the Marinoni Scenic Area that features bluffs, giant moss covered boulders and year-round briar branch. This hike is rated moderate difficulty, due to some elevation and length. All hikers and dogs with leashes are welcome.
Meet at 9 a.m. Dec. 10 at Harps in Elkins near the gas pumps to carpool or meet at Indian Creek Trailhead.

Pieces 'N Patches
Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers, for the annual Christmas lunch and auction. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Car Club
Foothills of the Ozarks Antique Car Club will meet for the Christmas party at 6 p.m. Thursday at Viney Grove Community Building.
Instead of a gift exchange, the club has decided to buy things to give to the new Northwest Arkansas Children's Hospital in Springdale, which will be opening in early 2018. It has been suggested to buy coloring books, crayons, colored pencils and reading books.

NARFE
Bella Vista Chapter 1547, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, will hold its next monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Friday at Hometown Bank in Pineville, Mo., just past Walmart.
Members will enjoy their annual Christmas social with entertainment by a barbershop quartet. Punch, soft drinks and tea, doughnuts and cookies will be provided. Members are welcome to bring along a favorite snack to share.
There will be a brief business meeting with Wally Sheldon giving an update on legislation and to discuss with more clarity the Blue Cross Medicare Part B premium reimbursement. Members will be assisted with any changes they would like to make the last few days of open season. All current and retired federal employees and their spouses are welcome.

Square Dance
The Fayetteville Square Dance Club is partnering with Feed Communities for a special December event. The club will be dancing to raise money and stock supplies for hungry folks this winter beginning at 8 p.m. Friday at Feed Communities, 221 S. Locust Ave. in Fayetteville.
Come dance traditional southern squares, taught and called to live old-time string band music. No experience is required. The live dance band will be led by Kim Lansford and Nathan Lee McAlister. Allison Williams will be calling. There is a $5 to $10 donation suggested, along with a food item.

Mercedes-Benz
The Mercedes-Benz Club of America, Ozark Section, will hold its Christmas celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at Fred's Hickory Inn in Bentonville. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. with appetizers and a no-host bar. This year there will be four dinner entrees to choose from (beef, pork, chicken and salmon) which includes the appetizers, a salad, baked potato and dessert for $40 per person. Handweavers

Historians
Erin Rowe will present the program and hold a book signing at the Benton County Historical Society meeting at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at 306 N.W. Second Street in Bentonville. Her book, An Ozark Culinary History: Northwest Arkansas Traditions from Corn Dodgers to Squirrel Meatloaf, was published in September by the History Press. This book includes a history of food in the Ozarks as well as 50 heirloom recipes, some dating back to the early 1800s. Refreshments will be available after the program.

The Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Arkansas Archeological Survey building, 2475 N. Hatch Ave in Fayetteville. The guest speaker will be Fred Paillet, who will present "Reflections on a Visit to the La Brea Tar Pits: Taphonomy and Astronomical Time Scales." An experienced geoscientist, Paillet relates his own personal experiences during and after a mind-bending encounter with this iconic fossil site now situated in the heart of busy Los Angeles.

History Club
The Bella Vista Historical Museum's History Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the museum for a showing of the movie "Jesse James," made in Pineville, Mo., in 1938. Families are welcome to come take a break from Christmas shopping to enjoy the movie and find out why Bella Vista has a role in the story of the making of this movie. Admission is free, and popcorn will be served. The museum is located at U.S. 71 and Kingsland in Bella Vista, next door to the American Legion.
