New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady showed some compassion Thursday for New York Giants counterpart Eli Manning being removed from his starting spot as part of the team's plan to evaluate other options.

"I have nothing but the most respect for him and everything he's achieved and accomplished in his career," Brady said in an interview with Westwood One Radio that aired before Thursday night's game between Washington and Dallas.

"Obviously, being on the other side of two of those Super Bowl losses to an Eli Manning-led team, I just have so much respect for his dependability, for his consistency, for his toughness. You know that's really everything you want in an NFL player, and I think Eli has always provided that for the team. So I think it's a pretty unfortunate situation.

"You always wish for everything to go like a fairy tale, but it doesn't. Michael Jordan played for the Washington Wizards. I mean, who would have ever believed that? And that's just pro sports."

No pressure

It's been a tough road for professional golfer Jeff Overton in recent years. After surgery for a herniated disc ended up with him getting a spinal infection, he's hardly played on the PGA Tour.

But with one putt this week, he proved he still has it.

Overton was in attendance at Indiana's game against Duke on Wednesday. The former Hoosier got the chance to putt 94 feet (baseline to baseline) during a timeout, and if the ball went in the hole that was cut out at the other end, he would win a trip for four to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for some fans.

He nailed it in the dead center of the hole.

No, nope, notta

Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander and Kate Upton have been married for only a few weeks, but the World Series champion already has faced one of the toughest questions he'll ever get on Twitter.

Someone asked Verlander which was better -- winning a World Series ring or honeymooning with Upton, who then got in on the conversation.

"Yeah @JustinVerlander we all want to know ???" Upton tweeted Friday.

Uh-oh. No pressure, right? Choose the wrong answer and Verlander might draw some ire from either baseball fans or his new wife.

The former Cy Young winner knows all about handling pressure, and his response showed he wasn't going to take the bait.

Verlander's response of a short animation of Cop Out actor Tracy Morgan saying "no" numerous times in a scene with co-star Bruce Willis drew thousands of "likes" on Twitter.

Keeping it in the family

Phil Mickelson has his caddie for next season, choosing a guy who grew up under the same roof. Tim Mickelson, former golf coach at Arizona State, was his older brother's interim replacement when Phil and Jim "Bones" Mackay split in June after 25 years of working together. And now Tim will be on the bag full-time.

Of course, the other domino to fall in this was Tim's job as an agent at Lagardere Sports, where he was managing the career of one of the game's hot young superstars, World No. 4 Jon Rahm, his former star at ASU.

Rahm's management team at Lagardere will comprise Steve Loy (Mickleson's longtime manager and a former University of Arkansas, Fayetteville golf coach), U.S.-based player manager Jeff Koski and European-based manager Jamie Evans.
