CULINARY CONFERENCE

The Healing Power of Food, Oct. 5-7, Brightwater: A Center for the Study of Food, 801 SE Eighth St., Bentonville.

Though geared toward culinary and medical professionals, this conference is open to the general public. Sessions will feature a combination of lecture and hands-on culinary instruction; attendees will learn how to prepare low-cost and culturally relevant meals.

Session topics include cooking and disease prevention, access to nutritious foods, Latin American cooking, cooking on a budget, cultural awareness, food as medicine, gluten-free cooking, recipe makeovers and carbohydrates and diabetes.

Speakers and chefs will include Dr. Glenn Mack, executive director of Brightwater: A Center for the Study of Food; chef Aria Kagan, Food Network; Jay Amargos, founder and chief mindful officer of I'Mindful; chef Lauren Altimont, Brightwater; Dr. Pearl McElfish, associate vice chancellor University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Northwest Regional Campus; Dr. Harlan and chef Leah Sarris, Goldring Culinary Center Team; Wal-Mart's Private Brands-Insights Team; and chef Matt Cooper, The Preacher's Son.
