Canehill man sentenced for meth

FAYETTEVILLE -- A Canehill man was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday for distributing methamphetamine.

Johnathan Sansonetti, 26, was sentenced to 15 years, six months followed by five years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $25,000 fine on one count of possession with intent to distribute meth.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration began to investigate Sansonetti in spring 2015, according to court records. The agency arranged a controlled buy of meth from Sansonetti in June 2016. Officers stopped Sansonetti, searched his car and found a half-pound of meth hidden in the air filter on July 26, 2016. A rifle also was found in the car.

Sansonetti told police he had more money and meth at home, according to court documents. Agents found 24 pounds of meth, $38,000 cash and several firearms and ammunition.

A federal grand jury indicted him in August 2016 and he pleaded guilty in January.

U.S. District Judge Tim Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Harris prosecuted the case.
