Washington Regional departments receive grants

Washington Regional Medical Foundation recently provided more than $25,000 in funding to eight hospital departments through a grant program designed to enhance the quality of patient care and improve convenience for hospital visitors.

A committee of employees and foundation board members reviewed proposals from numerous hospital departments and awarded grants in amounts ranging from $500 to $4,800:

•Admissions: $4,500 to provide device-charging stations in waiting areas throughout the hospital.

•Cardiology: $500 for DVD players so patients can receive in-room education about their upcoming procedures.

•Center for Exercise: $4,200 to help individuals with chronic and debilitating conditions such as arthritis, Alzheimer's, back pain, limited ambulation, neurological pain and chronic muscle pain.

•Emergency Department/Chest Pain Program: $3,000 to create a public education campaign about recognizing early heart attack symptoms.

•Imaging: $3,245 for a powered lift device to assist with transferring immobile patients.

•Pastoral Care: $4,800 toward developing a Pastoral Care program in the Women and Infants Center.

•Population Health: $2,500 for geriatric patients who need financial assistance with basic needs such as food, utilities or minor home repairs.

•Population/Case Management: $2,500 to support bereavement needs of NICU and Labor & Delivery families.
