Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge became chairman of the Republican Attorney Generals Association Thursday, a spokesman for the group said Thursday.
The Maumelle Republican, who had been the association's vice chairman, succeeded West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey as the association's leader.
Morrisey stepped down as the group's chairman to focus on his duties in West Virginia and his U.S. Senate campaign, the association said.
A new vice chairman will be chosen by the Republican attorney generals at a later date.
"Even with a record number of 29 Republicans serving as attorneys general, now is not the time for RAGA to rest," said Rutledge.
"My commitment and focus will be on winning in Virginia this November and expanding our majority in 2018," she said in a written statement. "I am honored to assume the role of chair of RAGA and look forward to the work of candidate recruitment and fundraising in the year ahead."
