Arkansas 69 work rerouting traffic

Maintenance on Arkansas 69 near the Black River Bridge outside Jacksonport has required the highway to be closed to through traffic and forced drivers to take detours in Independence and Jackson counties, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

The work began Monday. Arkansas 69 will be closed for about two weeks to allow crews to make repairs near the bridge, weather permitting and unless the White River rises, the department said. The bridge is near the confluence of the Black and White rivers.

Motorists traveling from Newark to Newport can take Arkansas 122 north to Arkansas 37 east to Newport. Those traveling from Newport to Newark can travel on Arkansas 367 north to Arkansas 37 west and then Arkansas 122 south to Newark.

Signs and traffic barrels will help control traffic, the department said.
