Melvin Andrews, a driver for YRC Freight in Springdale, won the straight truck division at the Arkansas Trucking Association's championship July 14 and 15 in Rogers. Andrews has worked at YRC Freight for 17 years and competed in the championship for 10 years. He came in second place in the straight truck class in 2012 and third place in 2009. Gary Mars, a driver for Wal-Mart Transportation, won the sleeper division and received the 2017 sportsmanship award. He has been a driver for 26 years, the past 14 with Wal-Mart. Mars has competed in the championship seven times since 2009, was named the Arkansas Grand Champion in 2014 and 2016, and placed seventh in the five-axle class at the National Truck Driving Championships in 2014.
Doug Gibson, an affiliate broker of Crye-Leike's Rogers branch office, was ranked No. 2 by REAL Trends among all Arkansas real estate agents based on closed sales volume of $25.68 million in 2016. He also ranked No. 11 among Arkansas' real estate agents when ranked by closed transaction sales with 72.
Dr. Sarah Jewell joined the Highlands Oncology Group on July 24. She completed medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She did her residency in 2014 at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at UAMS. She is certified in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Raj Rammohan, a foot and ankle specialist, joined Cooper Clinic's Foot Health Center in Fort Smith and will begin seeing patients Monday. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Florida. He moved from Tucson after his residency training at Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System.
Dr. Andres Vargas joined Mercy Clinic Cardiology-Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith as an interventional cardiologist. He earned his medical degree from Universidad de Guayaquil in Ecuador and completed an internship at Hospital Luis Vernaza in Ecuador. Vargas completed a one-year internship, two-year residency and served as chief resident in the internal medicine department at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He completed a one-year fellowship in interventional cardiology and a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular disease at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, nuclear cardiology and by the National Board of Echocardiography.
Dr. Sachil Shah also joined the Mercy cardiology clinic in Fort Smith. Shah earned his medical degree from the University of Birmingham Medical School in the United Kingdom. He completed a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Georgetown University Hospital and Medstar Washington Hospital Center and a three-year residency in internal medicine at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Shah is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
