Ecclesia College takes four-game series

The Royals won three of four games against Arlington Baptist College this weekend.

Ecclesia (30-19) lost the opener 3-1 on Friday, but rebounded with three straight wins to claim the series.

In the opener, Royals pitcher Mason Alexander allowed three runs in the third inning, but the Royals were handcuffed by Arlington starter Parker Kleinert, who allowed just five hits and struck out nine.

The Royals bounced back to claim game two 6-4 as Madison Bates scattered nine hits to win his ninth game of the season. The Royals only managed five hits, but took advantage of four Arlington errors.

Ecclesia won both games on Saturday. JT Stalnaker doubled and drove in two runs, and Matt Garrison was 2-for-4 and stole three bases in an 8-1 win. Jacob Martinez struck out seven to earn the complete-game win.

The Royals won the second game 3-2, scoring a run in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Stevie Morphew was 3-for-4 to lead Ecclesia. Garrison, Cameron Dougherty and Stalnaker all had multiple hits. Jay-Ryan Woods came on in relief and went seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.
