Some still without power in region

Electric companies are working to restore power by this afternoon.

Across Northwest Arkansas, an estimated 444 residents were without power about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, power company representatives said.

As of 1 p.m., The Southwestern Electric Power Company reported a decrease from 315 to 74 customers without power.

The flooding reported across the region did not directly cause the outages, SWEPCO representative Karen Wissing said. High wind and fallen trees are to blame for the broken poles and down wires, she said.

Nearly 140 Rogers residents and an estimated 150 in Fayetteville were without power at 11:22 a.m., Wissing said. The majority of the remaining outages are in Rogers, totaling 59 as of 1:09 p.m.

"We have multiple crews working on fixing them," Wissing said. "We are looking to have everyone back up by late afternoon, at the latest."

Most of the outages happened during the night, said Penny Storms, Ozarks Electric Cooperative's manager of media and public relations. For Ozarks, the 315 outages -- as of noon -- are spaced out throughout the region, with many east of Elkins in rural and wooded areas, she said. Others were reported in west Fayetteville out to Oklahoma.

"Throughout the night, we had various outages, which were contributed to severe lightning throughout the area," Storms said. "We had no centralized location, just two here and three there."

Multiple Ozarks crews are working to restore customer's power, but Storms gave no estimated time.

The companies reported peak outage numbers during the night, but have yet to compile exact numbers.
