• Boys in the public schools of Little Rock who desire to assist in the movement for the increased production of food and feedstuffs will be given an opportunity to do so. The Little Rock School Board at a special meeting yesterday afternoon adopted the following resolution: "That all schoolboys who have an opportunity to plant a crop before school is out, and who wish to do so may discuss the matter with R. C. Hall, superintendent of the school, who is authorized to grant them leave of absence from school on such conditions as the individual cases seem to justify."

• A train struck a Jeep about 11 p.m. Thursday in the 6100 block of Geyer Springs Road, dragging it 813 feet, but the driver was uninjured, Little Rock police said. It was the second train-vehicle accident at that intersection in two days. The driver of the vehicle, Garland Camper, 26, said the crossing signals were not lit and the crossing arms did not come down. The train's conductor, Freddy L. Gilmore, 45, said he thought the crossing arms had come down at the intersection but was unsure. Gilmore said the train was traveling 40 to 45 mph.

• Six Arkansas counties are suing national drug manufacturers and local distributors that sell legal drugs used to make methamphetamine. The lawsuit, filed in Independence County Circuit Court on March 21, states that the companies "knowingly sold far in excess of the amount necessary [of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine] for any legitimate use to producers of the illicit drug methamphetamine." The counties seek compensation for money spent on finding and cleaning up methamphetamine laboratories, as well as on housing inmates accused of methamphetamine related crimes and on their medical care.
