Construction begins at Fayetteville's Wilson Park playground

FAYETTEVILLE -- Crews have begun tearing down the old playground at Wilson Park and should have a new one ready by June.

Parking will remain open on the east side of the park near the castle and pool, the city said in a news release Friday. On-street parking around the park also is available. The playground area will be closed while construction crews remove the playground structures and concrete slabs.

The project will consolidate the two playgrounds into a more compact play area that will accommodate young children. It will consist of one large play structure offering a variety of opportunities for ages 5 to 12, a similar small play structure for ages 2 to 5 and a variety of freestanding components, games and benches.

The city will build a separate musical playground made possible through a donation from developer Fadil Bayyari.

The adjacent parking lot and entry at the northwest section is being improved.
