Cards beat Travs

Adolis Garcia went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI to lead the Springfield Cardinals to a 6-3 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Thursday night in front of an announced crowd of 5,078 at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.

Garcia hit his third home run of the season in the top of the third inning for a 2-1 lead and added an RBI double in the fifth inning to extend the Cardinals' lead to 3-1.

The Travs pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Chuck Taylor was hit by a pitch by Springfield reliever Daniel Bard and Tyler Marlette hit an RBI single off Trey Nielsen, but Kyle Waldrop struck out with the bases loaded to end the Travs' threat.

Springfield added two more runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run double by Nick Martini, who finished 2 for 3.

The Travs were held to five hits, with Ian Miller recording two hits. Justin Seager had an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Austin Gomber (1-1) allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 6 innings and struck out 5 for Springfield. Pedro Echemendia earned his first save.

Dylan Unsworth (0-1) took the loss for Arkansas, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings. He struck out six and walked two.
