The Susan G. Komen Ozark Affiliate lauded its top 2016 Race for the Cure fundraisers and announced grant recipients at the Promise Circle Luncheon on March 29 at Mermaids Seafood Restaurant in Fayetteville.

Lauren Marquette, affiliate executive director, told those gathered that the luncheon is a chance for the nonprofit organization to thank "all of you who have worked so hard to support us and show you where your efforts help."

Komen Ozark 2016-17 grants totaled $731,630 and were awarded to:

Community Clinic, $94,600.

Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House, $37,000.

Hope Cancer Resources, $62,750.

Madison County Health Coalition, $55,233.

Mercy Breast Center, $68,483.

Mercy Fort Smith, $62,564.

North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education, $115,000.

Cox Health Foundation-Branson, $75,000.

mAnd Washington Regional Cancer Support Home, $161,000.

This year's Race for the Cure, the nonprofit organization's largest fundraiser, is set for April 22, and race day events will include a survivors' breakfast and group photo, competitive 10K and 5K races, a survivor parade, a non-timed 5K, Paws for the Cure and a 1-mile fun run. Participants may register at komenozark.org or the group's registration office at Pinnacle Promenade Mall in Rogers.

Those gathering for grant announcements included Kari Nikolish, Julie Roblee, Gaye Cypert, Sandy Steinmetz, Sue Redfield, Nicole and Mike Bagley, Tiffany Lowe, Vivyan Gerrard, Carol Johnston, Leslie Henderson, Tracy Benson, Lora Fox, Kim Bearden, Judy Henbest and Elaine Thompson.

The American Heart Association Northwest Arkansas kicked off the Heart Ball: Heart of a Rockstar Lip Sync Battle, Season 2 with the Reveal Party on March 30 at The Grand on 117 in Rogers.

Six community members have committed to competing in the lip sync battle at the benefit ball on May 13 at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers. They are:

• Cameron Smith.

• Courtney Backus Norton.

• Jeremy Barclay.

• Ryley Williams.

• Stephanie Martinez.

• And Zach Simpson.

Guests will vote on their favorites with donations, with the performer garnering the most donations being named the winner.

The evening will also include live and silent auctions and the presentation of more than 20 Sweethearts. Sweethearts are community-minded high school sophomores who spent the past nine months doing community service while learning the importance of a heart healthy life.

Among those out for the Reveal Party were Julie and Keith Barber, Isaac Cody, Sharif Omar, Stephanie Jones, Chris Poling, Sharif Omar, Kendyl Caloway, Johnathan Koonce, Chrissy and Jason Fitzgerald and Michael and Jeff Roberts.
