'Evening of Artistry'

The University of Central Arkansas music department students and faculty members will perform for "Soundscapes: An Evening of Artistry," 7:30 p.m. today, Reynolds Performance Hall, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. The lineup will include pianist Neil Rutman; Jackie Lamar, saxophone, and Gail Robertson, euphonium, with pianist Kazuo Murakami; the UCA Percussion Ensemble, Opera Theater, Saxophone Quartet, Brass Choir and String Quartet; soprano Christine Donahue with the UCA Jazz Combo; guitarist Smokey Emerson; the Natural Slides Trombones; Lauren Lacy, clarinet; and Scott Strickland, percussion. Lot party

The Central Arkansas Library System will have food trucks (Roxie's Hot Dogs and Bryant's BBQ & Catering) and entertainment (Little Rock Central High School band and flag line) for "Party in a Lot," 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today on the parking lot of the Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock, marking Arkansas Gives 2017, an all-day project of the Arkansas Community Foundation encouraging Arkansans to give to the charity of their choice. Pizzeria fundraiser

'Brotherhood' display

"Brotherhood," a display of work by contemporary Arkansas-based representational painters Jason Sacran and John P. Lasater IV, goes on display at Justus Fine Art Gallery, 827A Central Ave., Hot Springs, with a reception, 5-9 p.m. Friday, in conjunction with Spa City's monthly Gallery Walk. The exhibit will remain up through April 30. The artists will be present at a closing reception, 4-6 p.m. April 28, and will participate in a still-life painting demonstration, 10 a.m.-noon April 29. Sinatra tribute

Frank Sinatra tribute artist Tom Tiratto and the Swingin' Tom Kats will perform for dinner, music and dancing, 6:30 p.m. Friday at Hempstead Hall, University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana, 2500 S. Main St., Hope. The show is part of the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council Performance Art Series. The dinner, by Juan Rivera, will feature chicken Cordon Bleu, roasted new potatoes, steamed broccoli and a dessert bar. Tickets are $35, $300 for a table for eight. The 2017 Cherry Street Fair season kicks off with a performance by blues singer Charles Woods, 5 p.m. Saturday, Thad Kelly Courtyard, 415 Cherry St., Helena-West Helena. Honoring Angelou

Commemorating April as National Poetry Month and the April 4 anniversary of the late Maya Angelou's 89th birthday, the Celebrate Maya Project will host a music-poetry variety show at 5 p.m. Saturday, Tower Of Strength Ministries (formerly the Vapors Club), 315 Park Ave., Hot Springs. Performers will include Hot Springs blues duo Jackie B and Me (Jackie Beaumont and Larry Womack); jazz and blues singer Fedett "Lady J" Johnson; singer-pianist Marsalis Weatherspoon; and soprano Ruth'e Korelitz with the Muses Creative Artistry Project. Reading poems by and about Angelou: Cheryl Batts, Kai Coggin, Bud Kenny, Akau Anyieth and Hazel Wright. Project founder and president Janis Kearney will also make a presentation. Radio station KUAR-FM, 89.1, is seeking teams to compete in its Pub Quiz in Conway, 5 p.m. April 23 at Shucked Surf and Turf Shack, 2480 Sanders Road, Conway. It's a benefit for KUAR and sister classical station KLRE-FM, 90.5. Through April 15, registration fee is $15-$100 (for teams of one, two, four and eight); after April 15, fees jump to $25-$140.
