Police: Fayetteville man hit by vehicle, suffers life-threatening injuries

A Fayetteville was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car Tuesday while crossing the road near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Razorback Road, police said.

The man is identified as David Spence, 59, Sgt. Craig Stout said in an email.

Jalyn Lewis, 21, of Fayetteville, was attempting to turn from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard onto Razorback Road when she struck Spence shortly before 8 a.m., Stout said. Lewis told police the sun was in her eyes and she couldn't see Spence, Stout said.

Spence was at Washington Regional Medical Center in serious condition Tuesday afternoon, said hospital spokeswoman Gina Maddox.

The incident is still under investigation, Stout said.
