California forecast: Heat, wind, fire risk

LOS ANGELES — A heat wave with triple digits was expected to hit the Los Angeles area, the San Joaquin Valley and Sacramento this weekend.

The San Francisco Bay Area was expected to see weekend sunshine and temperatures in the 70s and 80s.

Strong gusts up to 55 mph were expected into the weekend from Monterey south to San Diego, according to the National Weather Service.

Red-flag warnings for high fire danger were issued in mountain and valley areas into today, as forecasters predicted humidity levels could slip below 15 percent.

“Many of the state’s largest and most damaging wildfires coincide with this time of year,” Cal Fire Chief Thom Porter said.
