Wildcats conquer Trojans with ease

HOT SPRINGS -- Watson Chapel pounced on winless Hot Springs early, and the Wildcats never relented on their way to a 42-14 victory in the 5A-South opener for both teams.

Davion White's 14-yard run 52 seconds into the game triggered a 35-point first half for Watson Chapel.

Watson Chapel (1-0, 2-2) scored its final touchdown with 3:41 left in the third quarter.

Hot Springs (0-1, 0-4), which allowed a first-play touchdown to Arkadelphia last week in a 41-3 home loss, scored its first touchdown in seven quarters on a 47-yard run by Trayvon Gordon early in the fourth quarter. Korey Wasson scored on a 1-yard run with 1:50 left. Erick Guadron kicked both extra points.

Watson Chapel was aided by special teams and defense on the way to a 21-0 lead.

Brandon Moye returned a punt 44 yards with 2:27 left in the first quarter and Michael Williams returned an interception 45 yards at the 11:46 mark of the second quarter.

The Wildcats' passing game produced two touchdowns in the final 5:16 of the first half. Jakobi Jackson hit Jalyn Williams for scores of 51 and 2 yards. Scott Taylor kicked the extra points.

Jackson completed 8 of 12 passes for 136 yards and ran 4 times for 35 yards in the half.

White carried seven times for 63 yards and had a 12-yard reception. Jaquan Dorsey had a team-high three catches for 65 yards as Watson Chapel totaled 239 yards from scrimmage.

Omar Allen scored from the 1 with 3:41 left in the third quarter for Watson Chapel's sixth and final touchdown, making it 42-0.

Jordan finished with seven carries for 89 yards and Wasson had 13 carries for 52. Kenneth Byrd, Chris Stewart and Coby Wallace totaled 71 rushing yards in the first half. Hot Springs finished with 222.
