I-49 to be closed for 15 minutes Sunday morning

Removing an overhead power line spanning Interstate 49 in Benton County will require closing of all lanes for 15 minutes early Sunday.

All north and south traffic will be halted from 6:45 a.m. to 7 a.m. between Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale and Arkansas 264 in Lowell, weather permitting.

The Arkansas State Police and the Lowell Police Department will control traffic, which will be stopped before the off ramps to allow traffic to exit the interstate, the department said.

The work is part of a $100.6 million project to construct about 4 miles of the new U.S. 412 northern bypass from I-49 to Arkansas 112.

Work on Interstate 49 further south in Johnson and Springdale will require overnight lane closings for two nights beginning Sunday, the Highway Department said.

Placing road markings on the Clear Creek bridges and the overpasses at Johnson Mill Boulevard in Johnson and U.S. 412/Sunset Avenue in Springdale will require the outside lanes to be alternately closed from just south of Johnson Mill to U.S. 412 each night through Tuesday, weather permitting.

The northbound lane closings will be between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., and the southbound lane closings will last from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., the department said.

The work is part of a $28.3 million project to widen 4.5 miles of I-49 to six lanes from four between U.S. 71B and U.S. 412. The project is expected to be completed late this year, the department said.
