Big second quarter spurs Greenwood

GREENWOOD -- After Texarkana scored early and took the lead on Greenwood, it was all Bulldogs.

Greenwood (4-0, 1-0 6A-West) rolled Friday 55-10 at Smith-Robinson Stadium.

The Bulldogs piled up 369 yards of total offense and scored on special teams and defense. The Razorbacks (1-3, 0-1) finished with 265 yards of offense.

Kenny Wood rushed for 111 yards and 2 TDs for the Bulldogs, and he also caught a 50-yard score. Luke Hales snagged a TD reception and threw two others, finishing 6-of-9 for 116 yards for Greenwood.

Razorbacks quarterback Tyler Braswell was 13-of-22 passing for 140 yards, with Michael Caldwell catching 4 balls for 85 yards and a score.

Texarkana defender Cameron Collier had a pair of interceptions in the first quarter for the Razorbacks, the first setting up Texarkana at the 50. The Hogs marched that half of the field in five plays, and Caldwell made a juggling catch in the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown after the Bulldogs cornerback deflected Braswell's pass.

That gave Texarkana a 10-7 lead over Greenwood with 3:49 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs were driving when Collier came up with his second pick, but Greenwood's Ethan Escalante intercepted a pass on the on the ensuing snap.

From there, the Bulldogs rattled off 35 unanswered points in the second quarter.

Wood had TD runs of 2 and 10 yards and grabbed a 50-yard scoring reception from Hales. Sandwiched between Wood's touchdown runs -- at 11:38 and 4:11 of the second quarter -- was Connor Noland's 1-yard plunge after the Bulldogs blocked a punt.

Hales connected with Devin Gilbert, who made a one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone, with 8:22 left in the third quarter. Grant Ennis' extra-point kick started the running clock.

Trey Woods also had a pick-6, intercepting a Texarkana pass and running 19 yards for a touchdown.

Greenwood had 278 yards of total offense in the first half, with Wood running for 100 on 14 carries. The Razorbacks had 188 yards of total offense and had three takeaways on the host team, all in the first half.
