UA to play in Portland tourney next season

The Arkansas men's basketball team will play in the 16-team Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore., over the Thanksgiving weekend during the 2017-2018 season.

Joining Arkansas in the tournament are Duke, North Carolina, Michigan State, Florida, Butler, Connecticut, Georgetown, Texas, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Portland and Portland State.

There will be two eight-team brackets running simultaneously in the Rose Quarter's Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum Nov. 23-24 and Nov. 26.

First-round pairings haven't been announced, but each team will play three games that will be televised on the ESPN networks.

Only two teams from a conference were allowed.

The tournament is named in honor of Nike's co-founder and chairman in advance of Knight's 80th birthday.
