Low bids open on 15 projects

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department opened low bids worth $85.1 million on 15 projects Wednesday.

The low bids included $28.9 million on a project to rehabilitate a section of U.S. 64 in White County and $17.8 million to widen a section of U.S. 62 in Carroll County.

The projects on which the bids were opened included bids worth $80.8 million on 10 state highway projects and $4.3 million on five county road projects.

The rehabilitation project on U.S. 64 extends from Arkansas 367 to the Woodruff County line. It includes replacing four bridges and extending two reinforced concrete culverts.

Manhattan Road & Bridge Co. of Tulsa was the only contractor to submit a bid. It won't become final until department officials review it.

The U.S. 62 project will widen a 3.74-mile section west from Alpena to five lanes from two lanes.

The low bid by Nabholz Construction Corp. of Roger bested bids from six other contractors. While Nabholz' actual bid amount wasn't the lowest submitted, it was the lowest when the days the contractor said it would take to do the project -- 665 -- was factored into the cost of the project, the department said.
