BENTONVILLE -- A candidate for Benton County sheriff is under investigation by Arkansas State Police.

Nathan Smith, Benton County prosecutor, confirmed Tuesday the State Police is investigating an issue concerning Glenn Latham.

Latham said Tuesday he didn't have any comment about the investigation.

The investigation was started by State Police and didn't come from his office, said Smith, who said he could not provide any other details of the investigation.

Bill Sadler, a spokesman for the State Police, asked questions be directed to Smith.

Latham worked at the Sheriff's Office from June 2013 to January 2014. He also has worked for the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Latham is the independent candidate for sheriff in the Nov. 8 election. Shawn Holloway is his opponent. Holloway won the Republican nomination in March over then-Sheriff Kelley Cradduck.

Holloway is chief deputy at the Benton County Sheriff's Office. He couldn't be reached Tuesday for a comment on the police investigation of Latham.

Holloway last week had a complaint filed against him dismissed by the Arkansas Ethics Commission. The April complaint said Holloway took the Sheriff's Office helicopter to his parents' farm and flew relatives around the county and to Beaver Lake for two to six hours in January 2014.
